Three minor sisters died after jumping from their ninth-floor apartment in the Loni area of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred around 2 am at Bharat City, a residential township. The motive behind the incident is still under investigation. However, media reports suggest the girls may have been distressed after their parents objected to their excessive involvement in online gaming.

According to an NDTV report, the sisters—identified as Pakhi (12), Prachi (14), and Vishika (16)—were very close and carried out most daily activities together, including bathing, eating, sleeping and attending school.

They are believed to have become involved in a Korean online task-based game during the Covid-19 period and continued playing it regularly. Police also found that the girls had not been attending school consistently.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
