A 33-year-old college professor was stabbed to death at Malad railway station in Mumbai’s western suburbs on Saturday evening following an argument with a co-passenger on a local train.
The victim, identified as Alok Kumar Singh, taught at NM College in Vile Parle and was travelling from Vile Parle to Kandivali, according to Railway Police.
As the train reached Malad station, the accused allegedly stabbed Singh with a sharp weapon, causing him to collapse. The attacker then fled the scene, leaving Singh bleeding profusely, an official told the PTI news agency.
Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a murder case and launched a manhunt for the suspect. They are also examining the CCTV visuals at the station and its premises.
Citing a teacher at NM College, Times of India reported that Singh used to teach mathematics and statistics in the junior college section since 2024.
"He was a kind soul, calm and polite and never used to get involved in arguments or fights. In fact, he used to help in resolving fights. This is absolutely shocking for us," the teacher was quoted as saying by the daily.
