The victims, mostly women and children from mobile families, were stranded in the upper hills of the Basantgarh area.
A rescue team headed by Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmed, under the guidance of DSP PC Basantgarh Charanjith Singh and SHO PS Basantgarh PSI Rohin Chalotra, rushed to the spot after receiving information at the police post.
Videos show the authorities guiding the stranded locals down a hill as it is heavily snowing.
The rescue team had to cover several kilometres of snow-covered and foggy terrain to reach the stranded victims in the Chochru Galla area.
Police brought everyone to safety amid the difficult weather. Food and shelter were also provided to the victims. Officials said that the timely rescue averted a major disaster.
Local authorities have urges citizen to avoid unnecessary travel to high altitude and snowy areas.
Srinagar police have established an emergency helpline service to provide immediate assistance and a timely response.
