Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday promised that the culprits of the Sabrimala gold loss case would be jailed if the BJP came to power in the state.

Addressing the public in Thiruvananthapuram after flagging off new trains and infrastructure projects in Kerala, the PM said that the state was on the cusp of “Parivarthan.”

"The entire country, all of us, have unwavering faith in Lord Ayyappa. However, the LDF government has left no stone unturned in damaging the traditions of the Sabarimala Temple. Now, reports of gold theft are emerging from here. Reports of gold being stolen from the temple, from right next to the Lord. I want to make one thing clear: the moment a BJP government is formed here, a thorough investigation into these allegations will take place, and the culprits will have their place in jail."

About 4.54 kilograms of gold were allegedly misappropriated from temple artifacts, the sreekovil doorframes, and the Dwrapalaka idols in the temple. The theft allegedly occurred in 2019 after a refinishing and regoldplating of temple structures.

The case is currently under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Kerala Police under orders of the state high court.

PM Modi also said that the state’s ruling LDF and its corruption has harmed Kerala’s development.

He hailed BJP’s victory in Thiruvananthapuram corporation as historic and said that it “laid the foundation of the BJP government in Kerala."

"This victory is a result of the commitment to liberate kerala form the corruption of the LDF and UDF,” he said.

“The upcoming elections will be the ones to change the condition and direction of Kerala. When it comes to the future of Kerala, you have seen just two sides so far. On one side, there is LDF, and on the other side, there is UDF. Both of these have destroyed Kerala one after the other. But there is a third side too, that side is of development, of good governance, of BJP-NDA,”  he said, reported ANI.
