The Karnataka government, after suspending IPS officer K Ramachandra Rao after videos showing him in “obscene” positions with women went viral, might also consider dismissing him depending on the findings from further investigations into the case.

Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara, when asked about the incident, said, “This incident has caused embarrassment to the department. Such incidents are a matter of shame for not only the police department but also other departments.”

“We have suspended him. An inquiry will follow. After the inquiry, we will get to know the other dimensions as well. We will take the next action accordingly,” he said, adding that “he can be dismissed as well” depending on the findings, reported PTI.

Under the suspension period, Rao will be barred from leaving his headquarters or performing any official duties without written permission from the state government.

What the videos showed

The viral video in question, showed the suspended DGP K Ramachandra Rao in compromising positions with either one or multiple women.

The women's faces are blurred in footage circulating online. It is unclear if the women are colleagues or someone from outside.

Ramchandra Rao is seen sitting in his office and being touchy with the women who are standing beside him in the 47-second video that seems to have been shot over multiple days. Both Rao and the woman are seen wearing multiple outfits in the clips, which are stitched together. All of the videos are shot in similar angles and take place in the same room.

In one of the videos, he kisses the woman.

An investigation is also being conducted to find the person who shot the video clips.

Some audio clips were also obtained in which Rao is heard speaking to the women in romantic phone calls.

The DGP had rejected the allegations outright and tried to say that the videos were fabricated and false. Speaking to the reporter, he said, “I am also thinking how and when it happened and who has done it."
