'Is this less than rape?': Victim recalls how husband, son were stripped, beaten over property dispute in broad daylight

A man and his son were stripped and beaten, and his wife was molested by a group of men in Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar on January 2. CCTV footage obtained by the police shows three men dragging Rajesh Garg and his son to the road before kicking them as they are on the ground. His wife was also allegedly molested inside the building.

Rajesh and his wife Rita Garg run a gym in the basement of their home, police said. Garg alleged that Satish Yadav, a man whom they hired to take care of the commercial space, cheated them and took over the gym.

In January, at around 3-3:30 in the afternoon, Garg and his wife went to the basement to check a water leak when Yadav and two other men walked in. “ That day, my husband and I were standing outside the house. Just then, a boy, Shubham Yadav, came and grabbed my husband. When I tried to save my husband, a man named Pintu Yadav came. He stopped his Thar vehicle so fast that my husband narrowly escaped death,“ Rita Garg recalled to ANI. She said that after that, the three men, now identified as Vikas Yadav, Pintu Yadav, and Shubham Yadav, started beating Rajesh. They proceeded to throw him to the ground and pushed her away, and the kicked and pulled her hair.

“They humiliated me so much. I ran to the police station for help. By the time these people had entered the house and dragged my son away. They stripped him of all his clothes. He was beaten naked. People were watching. My son kept pleading with folded hands. Is this less than a rape?" She asked.

Speaking to the media, Rajesh Garg said that his son's wedding was to happen in 10 days. “He beat him badly. I saw him lying on the road. Both my sons have left home. They have also switched off their mobile phones. We don't know where they are. The police have only arrested Pintu Yadav so far. The rest are all absconding. I want all of them to be arrested. They should be given the harshest possible punishment,” he said.

Reports say that the goons stripped the victim's son, dragged him to the street, and beat him with shoes. He had broken his teeth and suffered head injuries.

The footage showed bystanders spectating the incident.

According to local reports, the gang has occupied the family’s property. the family had given them a notice to vacate. The incident was captured by multiple CCTV cameras at the location.

Police have now registered a case against the accused men.
