A group of protesters staged a demonstration outside the Dehi High Court, standing against its decision to grant conditional bail to former BJP MP and Unnao rape convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

Police officials at the scene intervened, attempting to disperse the protesters, announcing, "Demonstrating here is prohibited. It is illegal. Legal action may be taken against you. If you want to protest, go to Jantar Mantar."

Protesters at the scene demand stricter actions against Sengar. They also questioned the Delhi High Court's decision to let out a convicted rapist.

One protestor who spoke to ANI asked, “ On what grounds was Kulldeep Sengar granted bail, when it was declared that he had committed rapes and murders? If a life sentence was given to him, then why is he out? We demand that the rapist should go behind bars so women feel safe."

Women's activist Yogita Bhayana, who was also part of the protests, said, "Women across India are deeply hurt that the sentence of a rapist has been overturned. This happened in this very court. So, we will seek justice from the same place where the injustice occurred."

The protests have come after the Unnao rape survivor and her family themselves attempted a protest over the suspension of the jail term.

On Thursday, visuals of the survivor and her mother being dragged out by police personnel from India Gate went viral on social media, causing massive outrage. The mother and daughter had demanded that the court overturn its ruling in a sit down protest.

The victim's mother expressed strong objection to the decision by the court, saying, “His bail should be rejected... We will knock on the doors of the Supreme Court. We have lost faith in the high court... If we don't get justice in the Supreme Court, we will go to another country... The person guilty of my husband's murder should be hanged immediately.”

The Unnao rape survivor who is currently a Delhi resident, said that she felt “extremely unsafe" after learning of the bail conditions granted to Sengar. She also spoke of past incidents to highlight her concerns. “He is a powerful man. He would get his men to do his dirty work for him. When my car met with an accident in which two of my relatives and my lawyer died in 2019, Sengar didn’t do it himself. His henchmen did. Now that he is out, we are all unsafe,” she said.

Sengar was handed a life imprisonment sentence for the rape of the then minor victim from Uttar Pradesh, Unnao, in 2017.
