Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat questioned the move by suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir to construct a Babri Masjid-like mosque in West Bengal. Bhagwat said it is "being done for votes." Bhagwat said government funds should not be used to construct religious places.
Speaking at a programme at the Science City auditorium, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat called the move a political conspiracy. "Now, this is a political conspiracy to restart the dispute by rebuilding the Babri Masjid. This is being done for votes; it is neither for the benefit of Muslims nor Hindus. This shouldn't happen," he said.
"The government should not build temples or any religious place," the RSS chief said. Recollecting how the Somnath temple was built, Bhagwat said no government money was used to reconstruct the temple. "The Ram Mandir was built after the Supreme Court judgment. The government was asked to form a trust, and they did. The government didn't provide the money. We all contributed," he added.

"Misleading campaigns" have led to misconceptions about the organisation. He said a person has the right to make an opinion about the RSS, but that should be based on reality and not on "narratives and secondary source information". Bhagwat said the RSS does not have any political agenda, and the Sangh works for the betterment and "protection of the Hindu society."
The RSS chief asserted that the country will again become 'Vishwaguru', and "it is the duty of the Sangh to prepare the society for the purpose".
