The BJP alliance leads in 125 municipal councils as counting of votes pulled during the Maharashtra local body elections continue. The party is leading with 127 seats, and its allies, the Shiv Sena and the NCP won, 53 and 32 seats respectively.
Congress meanwhile, has won 36 seats and its allies Shiv Sena UBT holds 9 and NCP (SP) secured 10.
In Satana Muncipal corporation, Shiv Sena leader Harshanda Patil won deafeating the former BJP mayor Sunil More.
The BJP won a total of 18 seats in Palghar Dahanu Nagar dominating the muncipal council while the NCP won a total of 8 seats.
The party also won five of the 10 district council president posts in Satana. The counting is ongoing in the rest of the posts, with trends leaning to a strong showing for the BJP.
In Katol, the NCP and Shetkari Kamgar Party won 12 seats and the BJP won 13 seats bringing a change in power. The muncipal council was earlier considered a stronghold of the BJP.
Ajit Pawar's NCP has won 28 out of 33 seats in the Baramati Muncipal council.
In Badalpur the BJP is leading on 29 seats.
In the Udgir Nagra parishad, the aliance between NCP Ajit Pawar and the BJP won 34 out of the 40 seats. Out of this 20 seats were won by the NCP Ajit Pawar party and 14 went to the BJP.
The BJP, however, faced a setback in Palghar and Dhabu and Trimbakeshwar municipal councils. The mayor posts went to the Shiv Sena at all three regions. The party also won 22 out of 26 corporator posts in Vita Muncipality.
The Shiv Sena won the seat in the Municipal Council of Mahad after a tussle with the NCP.
In Dahanu Municipal Council, Shiv Sena Shinde faction's Rajendra Machhi won, while in Palghar Municipal Council, Shiv Sena Shinde faction's mayoral candidate Uttam Gharat won.
A turnout of 67.3 per cent was recorded in the 263 local bodies in the first phase of elections held on December 2, and 47.04 per cent of voters turned up at the second phase of the election in the 23 local bodies on Saturday.
Reports of violence and alleged electoral malpractice emerged in some areas. In Ambernath, police detained 208 women after a lathi charge following a clash between rival groups. The women were allegedly brought in for impersonation, a claim they have denied.
Clashes between party workers from the BJP, Shiv Sena and Congress were also reported in multiple districts.
