The holy city of Ayodhya is all set to witness another grand ceremony on Tuesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the Dharma Dhwaj (sacred flag) atop the 191-foot-high shikhara of the Ram Temple.

The event will mark the completion of the temple’s construction, which began in 2020, a year after the Supreme Court, in a historic verdict, resolved a decades-old legal battle and awarded the entire 2.77-acre disputed land to the Ramjanmabhoomi Trust.

Measuring 22 feet in length and 11 feet in width, the specially designed flag weighs between two and three kilograms. It was crafted by a parachute specialist from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The flag features three sacred symbols—Om, the Sun and the Kovidara tree. While Om is the eternal spiritual sound, the Kovidar tree—a hybrid of the Mandar and Parijat trees created by Rishi Kashyap—showcases ancient plant hybridisation in India.

Modi will arrive in Ayodhya at 9.30 am and visit the Saptmandir. He will also visit the Sheshavtar Mandir and Mata Annapurna Mandir. Later, he will perform pooja at Ram Darbar Garbh Grah and Ram Lalla Garbha Grah.

The flag hoisting ceremony will be held at 12 pm. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel, and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath will be present on the occasion.

According to Champat Rai, General Secretary of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, around 7,000 people, including thousands of saints from eastern Uttar Pradesh, will attend the ceremony.

"The programme will take place on the auspicious Panchami date of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha, coinciding with the Abhijit Muhurat of Shri Ram and Maa Sita's Vivah Panchami, a day symbolising divine union," said an official statement.

Chief Minister Adityanath on Monday conducted an on-site review of the preparations and passed necessary directions to the officials concerned.

A total of 6,970 security personnel, including commandos from the ATS, NSG snipers, cyber experts, and technical teams, have been deployed in the holy city as part of heightened security measures, the state government said.
