The Uttar Pradesh Police and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have launched an investigation after two Kashmiri PhD scholars from IIT Kanpur went missing suspiciously amid the ongoing probe into the Delhi car blast case.
The institute officials stated that they have no information regarding the students' whereabouts for the last few weeks.
According to reports, one of the students has been missing since October 18, while the second student went missing on November 10, on the day of the blast near Red Fort. Both of them joined IIT Kanpur in 2019 as PhD scholars.
The security agencies are examining the student records and verifying movement logs to track them.
Following the blast, which killed 13 people and injured over 30 others, the Uttar Pradesh government had sought a detailed report on the Kashmiri students residing in the state.
Another arrest in J&K
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a man from Srinagar on Saturday for alleged links with the 'white collar' terror module which is suspected to be behind the Delhi car blast. The arrested person has been identified as Tufail Niyaz Bhat, a resident of the Batamaloo area.
Six people have been arrested by the NIA so far in connection with the 'white collar' terror plot. They included key accused Amir Rashid Ali, co-accused Jasir Bilal Wani, and doctors Muzammil Ganaie, Adeel Rather and Shaheena Saeed, besides preacher Maulvi Irfan Ahmed Wagay.
They all are presently in NIA custody.
