Rohini Acharya Lalu Yadav’s daughter announced that she is quitting politics and disowning her family on Saturday. She made the announcement just a day after the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan suffered a major blow in the 2025 Bihar Asembly elections.

Acharya announced her decision on X, saying I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family.

She also said that she was persuaded into making the decision by Sanay Yadav and Rameez. “This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do …nd I’m taking all the blame,” she added.

Acharya’s post had initially only mentioned her quitting from politics and severing ties with her family. The post was later edited to add the part about Sanjay and Rameez.

Sanjay Yadav is an RJD member and a senior political advisor to Rohini’s brother and party leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Rhini had previously shown her displeasure with Sanjay’s influence at the party. She had said, "You can make Sanjay Yadav an MP or MLA, but Lalu Prasad Yadav cannot make him sit on the chair."

She is not the first to sever ties to the party; right before the Bihar Assembly elections, Lalu Prasad had expelled his oldest son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party and disowned him. He went on to form his own party and contest the elections.

Acharya would be the second sibling in the family to sever ties with the party.

The BJP and JDU-led NDA swept the seats in the Bihar Assembly elections by winning 202 seats out of 243, after the polls were declared on Friday. The RJD was left with just 26 seats in the Mahagatbandhan coalition.
