Six people were killed after being run over by an incoming passenger train at Chunar station in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the tragedy took place around 9.15 am when several passengers got off the Gomo–Prayagraj Chopan Express train on the wrong side of the fourth platform.

The passengers attempted to cross the track, though there was a footover bridge, and were hit by incoming Netaji Express train.

Most of the victims are believed to be pilgrims.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident and directed officials to ensure that relief and rescue operations were carried out swiftly.
