Thirteen victims of the Chevella bus-tipper lorry accident have been identified so far, Telugu media reports said. As many as 21 lives were lost in the incident that was reported on Monday morning. The victims included the drivers of both vehicles and a middle-aged woman from Karnataka. A district official said 22 people suffered injuries in the mishap.
The Chevella accident also claimed the lives of three siblings from Tandur of Vikarabad district. The death of three daughters of Yellaiah Goud and Ambika came as a shock to everyone who heard the news as the siblings had united at home for the marriage of their elder sister on October 17. Yellaiah Goud, who runs a private travel agency, has four daughters. He got his eldest daughter Anusha married on October 17, local news reports stated. They were on the way back to Hyderabad when tragedy struck.
Noting that a head-on collision occurs when one of the vehicles is on the wrong side, he said the cause of the accident would be known after the inquiry. With the gravel falling on the bus, several passengers got trapped inside the vehicle and officials carried out relief measures using earthmovers.
The government has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The Transport Minister also said the state government would offer Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased in addition to Rs 2 lakh from TGSRTC. The government would also provide Rs 2 lakh each to the injured.
