Zubair Hungargekar, a software engineer who was arrested on charges of links to terrorism, was found to have allegedly followed Osama bin Laden’s speeches.

The techie was arrested earlier this week by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Pune over his alleged links to terror outfit Al-Qaeda.

Sources said that they found the Urdu translation of a speech by Bin Laden among many of Hangargekar’s possessions, NDTV reported.

There were also photographs of Hangargekar using an AK-47 rifle nd making bombs. The sources said that they were making efforts to understand his role in radicalising youngsters.

He was under the surveillance of the ATS since last month and was arrested from the Kondhwa area under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

Hangargekar was allegedly involved in anti-national activities and planning terror strikes in Maharashtra and other cities, according to the statement by the police to the court.

The Pune techie hails from Solapur and specialises in software testing and database development. He was working at a Software IT company in Kalyani Nagar with a good salary before he was arrested.

The ATS held large-scale raids across 25-26 locations in the Kondhwa area as part of a terror funding case. Materials recovered from the raids pointed to Hangargekar and his role. The court ordered his custodial remand till November 4. About 19 laptops, 40 cellphones were found during the raids on October 9th.

The evidence is also being examined to determine the involvement of other individuals in the case.
