Police have arrested 3 people, including a pastor, after they were traced through CCTV footage. The pastor, Francis, runs a shelter home in Koonammavu in Varapuzha, Ernakulam district. The other two were identified as Nithin and Aromal. They have been charged with attempt to murder.
Kochi Central Police had earlier detained Sudarshanan for harassing passersby and brought him to the shelter home as they found him to be mentally challenged. However, he was involved in a brawl with fellow inmates and the management brutally thrashed him. He genitals were cut off and one eye was pierced. Police found stab marks all over his body.
Police launched probe into the attack after Sudarshanan was rescued from Kodungallur. They contacted his relatives in Aroor who revealed that he was accused of murdering a person named Muneer in Cherthala. After receiving bail, he was under treatment at a de-addiction centre in Kochi. The relatives suspected that he might have been attacked in retaliation for the murder.
However, CCTV footage showed a vehicle from the Koonammavu shelter home passing through the road in Kodungallur where Sudarashanan was abandoned. Following this, police interrogated the shelter home authorities, leading to arrest of the pastor and two others.
