Bajrang Singh, a former National Security Guard (NSG) commando, was arrested from Ratangarh in Rajasthan's Churu district, after 200kg of ganja was seized from him.

Singh, who had once fought terrorists as a part of the anti-terror operation during the 26/11 attack on Mumbai in 2008, was caught trying to smuggle drugs from Telangana and Odisha into Rajasthan, as per a Loksatta report, citing Inspector General of Police Vikas Kumar.

IG Vikas Kumar added that a reward of Rs 25,000 had been placed on Singh's head.

The report also said that after Singh's retirement from the NSG in 2021, he tried his hand at politics, but failed. He then helped his wife contest elections—another endeavour that failed. This drew him to the world of organised drug trafficking. Over the span of a few years, he rose through the ranks and became notorious for smuggling drugs.

The Rajasthan police explained that Bajrang Singh was a mastermind in a pan-Indian operation that involved importing large consignments of drugs from Telangana and Odisha, dividing them into smaller portions, and bringing them into Rajasthan.

Bajrang Singh was arrested in a joint operation by Rajasthan's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), titled 'Operation Ganjne'.

The Loksatta report also said that two months before his arrest, the investigating officers had received a tip that Bajrang Singh used to travel with his cook from Odisha.

They soon traced the cook's relatives, which led them to Singh's hideout in Ratangarh. He was arrested from there during a bike outing.
