The Congress slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Manipur on Saturday and called his three-hour visit a mere "farce". This is the prime minister's first visit to Manipur, ever since ethnic violence broke out in the northeastern state.

Slamming Modi's three-day visit to the northeastern states, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X, "So now it is official. The PM will spend less than 3 hours in Manipur tomorrow. This visit instead of providing a force for peace and harmony is actually going to be a farce tomorrow."

The Congress-led Opposition has been demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should visit Manipur ever since ethnic clashes broke out between the Meitei and Kuki tribes in Manipur in 2023. Congress urged the prime minister to intervene and take steps to resolve the clashes.

Opposition leader in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has undertaken multiple visits to Manipur and assured the affected communities that he would raise the issue in Parliament.

Prime Minister Modi will visit  Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal and Bihar  between September 13 and 15. According to a statement, prime minister will visit Manipur and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore at Churachandpur at around 12.30pm. He will also address the gathering on the occasion. Further, he will inaugurate various projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore at Imphal, at around 2.30pm and address a public function.

Before embarking on his Manipur visit, Modi will visit Mizoram and inagurate development projects worth over Rs 9000 crore.
