In a startling move, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder Dr Ramadoss ousted his son and former Union minister Anbumani Ramadoss from the party, accusing him of indulging in anti-party activities. The move comes as Anbumani is conducting a statewide campaign against DMK rule in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing presspersons, Ramadoss said Anbumani is being removed from the party on the recommendation of party's disciplinary committee. Ramadoss said 16 issues of misconduct were raised against Anbumani, and the latter failed to respond to notices issued to him. Ramadoss said notices were issued twice to the former minister, and he failed to respond during both instances.

Ramadoss came down heavily on Anbumani and said he lacked leadership and political qualities to lead the party. Calling him a "weed", Ramadoss said, it has to be got rid of. The sudden announcement comes after Anbumani recently said he would announce PMK's alliance for the upcoming election soon.

Ramadoss added he would soon launch a statewide yatra, in view of the upcoming assembly elections in the state. The PMK fought the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The rift between the father-son duo widened after Anbumani's nephew was made the head of the party's youth wing. Recently, Ramadoss convened a special meeting of the party and reinstated himself as PMK's founder-president.
However, Anbumani's close aide K. Balu dismissed the move and said the tenure of current office bearers, including president Anbumani, was extended till August 2026 during a general conference of the party.
