Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called upon IIT-Kanpur to spearhead India’s journey towards becoming a global leader in deep technology by driving the ambitious initiative "Deep Tech Bharat 2025." Speaking as chief guest at the industry-academic engagement programme ‘Samanvay 2025,’ the CM underlined the critical role of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, cybersecurity and medical technology in shaping India’s future.

Deep Tech Bharat 2025, India's first national deep tech conference, was launched at IIT-Kanpur with participation from premier institutions and government bodies including DRDO, ISRO, and MeitY, alongside more than 200 venture capital firms. The conference emphasizes core technologies such as AI, semiconductors, quantum technologies, space tech, and biosciences to foster indigenous innovation and technological self-reliance. IIT Kanpur’s centre of excellence in MedTech, set to be operational by next year, is a key pillar of this vision.

The CM stressed that technology should serve humanity and national interests, not just business goals. He urged industrial leaders to allocate a substantial chunk of their profits into research, innovation, and development to cultivate a robust ecosystem of technological advancement. Highlighting IIT-Kanpur’s six decades of excellence in science and engineering, he advocated for the institution to lead national efforts in developing deep tech capabilities that can support India’s strategic and economic goals.

He praised the innovative spirit of young Indian minds, who are actively addressing national challenges through technological breakthroughs. He cited a recent visit to Noida’s drone technology centre as an example of how youth-led innovation is reinforcing India’s defence and technological strength.

Sustainability and self-reliance were other core themes in the chief minister's address. He highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s record achievement of planting 240 crore saplings in eight years, significantly increasing forest cover and making strides in water conservation projects that transformed drought-prone regions like Bundelkhand. The state’s concerted efforts towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were lauded, including a historic 36-hour marathon legislative session dedicated to SDG discussions.

The CM noted the rapid economic progress India has made, emerging as the world’s fourth-largest economy, and poised to become the third-largest within two years. He credited this growth to the youth and the state government's transformative policies, which have also made UP the second-largest economy in India. This progress, he said, is a testament to the power of innovation, enhanced infrastructure, and good governance.

He also acknowledged the vital role of cybersecurity in today’s digital world. Recalling that Uttar Pradesh had only two cyber police stations in 2017, he elaborated on the expansion of cyber police presence in every district, with over 1,500 cyber help desks established. The state has also launched a State Forensics and Cybersecurity Institute. He expressed an earnest desire to collaborate with IIT-Kanpur to further strengthen cybersecurity capabilities and address the growing threats.

Recognizing the importance of mathematical sciences, the CM praised IIT-Kanpur mathematician Professor Manindra Agrawal for his pivotal contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic through mathematical modelling that helped the government in pandemic containment strategies.

He concluded by invoking India’s ancient intellectual heritage, referencing Takshashila University and ancient medical sages like Sushruta and Charaka, to inspire contemporary innovation rooted in deep knowledge and integration of diverse skills.

This event also highlighted emerging startup initiatives at IIT-Kanpur, including the C3iHub innovation hub that focuses on cybersecurity and deep tech startups, showcasing breakthrough products in security, surveillance, drones, blockchain, and cyber threat mitigation. Such initiatives exemplify the promising synergy among government, academia, and industry to cultivate a future-ready India.
