The weather department has issued an alert for the next five days for Mumbai, warning of moderate to heavy rains with strong winds for the next five days. The IMD alert comes as Mumbai braces to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, which will begin on Wednesday.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert has been issued in Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts along with Mumbai till Wednesday. This alert will remain in force till August 29 in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.

The city has been receiving showers on Monday and Tuesday, causing waterlogging in certain parts. According to the IMD, the city's weather will be generally cloudy on Wednesday. There will be moderate rains in the city and suburbs along with occasional strong winds. The maximum temperature is  expected to be around 28 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature around 24 degrees Celsius.

High tide

There is also a high tide warning on Wednesday at 2:05 pm, where the waves will reach 4.04 metres. This will be followed by a low tide at 7:35 am, reaching 1.38 metres, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Authorities have advised coastal residents and travellers to remain alert and follow safety guidelines due to heavy rainfall and tidal fluctuations.

Reasons for sudden climatic change

The IMD attributes to the sudden onset of showers to the low pressure system formed in the Bay of Bengal. This is causing intermittent heavy rains in the entire Konkan region. The low pressure area is also resulting in sporadic rains with heavy rains at some places in Mumbai and the surrounding districts this week.
