Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who had to step down as Kerala state Youth Congress chief, allegedly threatened a woman that it would only take him seconds to kill her. The Palakkad MLA made the threats over the phone to the woman after she refused to abort a pregnancy.
The telephonic conversation accessed by Malayalam television channels had Rahul Mamkootathil trying to convince a woman to terminate her pregnancy. Despite the woman telling him that she is not expecting him to support the child or be part of its upbringing, Rahul says her decision (to keep the child) is going to spoil his life. Her doings are such that his life will be destroyed for sure, the Congress MLA says.
Despite his repeated pleas, the woman maintains that she will not agree to an abortion and nobody will ever link the child to him. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee member then demands to meet her in person. "I want to see you once... my head is breaking open," Rahul is heard saying in the recording released by Reporter TV.
"I am well aware that you are not coming to meet out of love for me, you just want to resolve an issue that is bothering you. You consider me as a thing (and not a human being)... or are you planning to spike and kill me?" the woman asks. To this, the Palakkad MLA quickly retorts, "If I want to kill you, how many seconds do you think it will take me?" "Then do it... isn't that the safest thing for you?" she asks, to which the Congress leader yet again asks, "How much time do you think I will need if I decide to kill you?" Rahul was heard sighing as the girl asks if he thinks he can go scot-free after killing her? "Do as you please," she says.
Rahul Mamkootathil stepped down as the state Youth Congress chief after an actress accused him of sending her obscene texts repeatedly and inviting her to join him in a five-star hotel. Later, it was revealed that at least nine women, including the daughter of a former Lok Sabha MP from Kerala, had written to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) complaining against him. Malayalam media reports then released telephonic conversations between Rahul and a woman in which he was heard trying to convince her to terminate the pregnancy. The leader, who is native to Pathanamthitta, had earlier claimed that he had nothing to do with the telephonic conversations that are doing rounds on television channels.

While Rahul maintained that he was innocent and was not planning to resign from the Assembly, reports claim that Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan is of the opinion that Rahul needs to go.
