Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party's vice president B. Gopalakrishnan kicked up a row on Friday, saying voters would be "added" to the electoral roll in seats where they target to win during elections. However, the BJP leader denied charges of voters being added to the electoral roll in false addresses.
Addressing presspersons on Friday, Gopalakrishnan said voters will be added to the roll in seats where they believe they have an advantage. Responding to charges that voters were added illegally to Thrissur's electoral roll for Union Minister Suresh Gopi's win during the Lok Sabha elections, Gopalakrishnan said they will "add voters extensively to the electoral roll."
"We will even bring voters from Jammu and Kashmir and add them to the electoral roll to emerge victorious", Gopalakrishnan said. "We will include them in the electoral roll after making them stay in the constituency for one year. We will do it tomorrow also," The Hindu reported quoting Gopalakrishnan.
Justifying the voter addition, Gopalakrishnan asked, "If a Kashmiri voter wishes to see me win in elections, what's wrong with he coming and working for the party, staying in the constituency for a year?"

The top Kerala BJP leader's comments come amid Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'vote theft' allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission. Gandhi alleged the poll body had manipulated the electoral roll for the BJP's win in elections. The Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal are now conducting Vote Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, alleging massive disenfranchisement in Bihar SIR.
