Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Yanam, and Tamil Nadu on Thursday, August 14, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. Chittoor, Arogyavaram, Rayachothy,Narsipanam, Vishakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakuam, Sompeta, Chodavaram and Srungavarapukota needs to be alert for extreme rainfall and wind, the Amaravati Met Centre's Nowcast said.
In the latest weather highlights released on X in the evening, the weather department confirmed the presence of a low-pressure area over northwest and adjoining areas of the west-central Bay of Bengal and South Odisha–North Andhra Pradesh Coasts. As a result, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, among other parts of the country, it said. Many places in the Telugu states, particularly the coastal districts, will continue to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning for the next five days, it said.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Rayalaseema, and Interior Karnataka during the next four to five days," the IMD said. "Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema on the 14th; Kerala and Mahe during the 14th-18th; Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, and Interior Karnataka during the 14th-19th; and Coastal Karnataka during the 14th-20th August, with isolated very heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on the 14th; Telangana during the 14th-16th; Coastal Karnataka on the 14th and during the 17th-19th; and South Interior Karnataka on the 19th of August," it added.
Meanwhile, it was also confrmed b IMD that Extremely heavy rainfalls (≥21cm) was recorded at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam in the 24 hours ranging till 8:30 AM on Thursday.
Telangana on Thursday continued to be battered by intense rainfall. Districts that have received a red alert advisory are Sangareddy, Medak, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Khammam, Suryapet, Medchal, Malkajgiri, and Vikarabad. Hyderabad, however, has been issued with an orange alert.
