Security forces were beefed up at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab on Monday, following a bomb threat, according to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages the famous shrine.
According to SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan, the email received by the Temple board warned about the presence of RDX explosives, and potential damage to the revered shrine, as per a Times of India report.
"Although it could be a hoax aimed at spreading fear, we are not taking any chances," he said, about the email that listed Monday as a possible time for the attack, without offering specifics.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed receiving a complaint regarding an email threatening to bomb the Golden Temple, and declared that the police would ensure security arrangements at the shrine prevented any untoward incidents.
