The Congress targeted the Modi government on Monday and charged the Centre lacks the moral courage to criticise the United States for its attack on nuclear sites in Iran.
Criticising the US for conducting strikes over nuclear sites in Iran, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, "President Trump's decision to unleash US airpower on Iran makes a mockery of his own calls for the continuation of talks with Iran. The Indian National Congress reiterates the absolute essentiality of immediate diplomacy and dialogue with Iran."
The Congress leader targeted the Narendra Modi-led government for being silent on the US attacks. "The Government of India must demonstrate greater moral courage than it has so far. The Modi Government has unequivocally neither criticised nor condemned the US bombing and Israel's aggression, bombings and targeted assassinations," he charged in a post on X on Monday. He added, "It has also maintained a deafening silence on the genocide being perpetrated on the Palestinians in Gaza."
The United States launched Operation Midnight Hammer on Sunday and formally joined Israel in the attacks against Iran. US Air Force attacked three key nuclear sites in Iran during the early hours of Sunday. The US deployed its B-2 stealth bombers and struck Iran's key Fordo nuclear site on Sunday. The US struck Iran's Fordo nuclear fuel enrichment plant with bunker-busting American bomb known as the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator.

The US also struck Iran's nuclear sites in Natanz and a facility near Isfahan. Natanz is the oldest and most extensive enrichment site and it suffered significant blows in the US strike. Israel had already struck the Natanz site repeatedly, destroying an aboveground facility and disrupting its electrical systems. The US on Sunday followed up with two massive bombs and 30 cruise missiles.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday and expressed over rising tensions in the Middle East. Modi said during the call, he reiterated India’s call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.
