Ending days of speculation of him being stripped off from the state chief post, Tamil Nadu BJP leader K. Annamalai said he is not in the race for the party’s next president. Annamalai said that he will continue as a cadre in the party.
Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore Annamalai dismissed speculation of his contest to the state leadership post. Ruling himself out of the state president race he said that the next leader will be chosen unanimously by the party members.
Reaffirming his commitment to continuing as a party worker and focusing on the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections he said, it is his duty to remove DMK from power in the state.

When asked if he will be moved to Delhi with a ministerial berth he categorically denied any such plans, stating that he would remain in Tamil Nadu and continue working for the party at the state level. “I will continue to be a cadre. I came to politics to fight against corruption, and I wouldn’t compromise in that resolve.”
However, Annamalai refused to comment on whether he is stepping down from the president's post at the insistence of AIADMK with the party’s national leadership. “One day or the other, a good government will be formed in Tamil Nadu. As a cadre, I will continue my work as usual,” he replied.
Meanwhile, Annamalai is scheduled to visit Delhi again next week to meet BJP leaders J.P. Nadda and others in the party. Sources say Annamalai could be elevated and given a ministerial berth. “I will go to Delhi if I am asked to. But I will come back within a day, even if I go because my work is here in Tamil Nadu. I will not leave Tamil Nadu,” Annamalai said.
