The Karnataka unit of  Bharatiya Janata Party will launch the 'Janaakrosh Yatra' -  a statewide campaign to create awareness about the price rise under the Congress government in the state on April 7. Union Minister Prahalad Joshi will flag off the first phase of the campaign from Mysuru on the day.

The yatra will pass through Mysuru and Chamarajanagar on April 7, Mandya and Hassan on April 8, Kodagu Mangaluru on April 9, and Udupi and Chikkamagaluru on April 10.

"The first phase of the campaign has been discussed with the Union ministers V. Somanna and Shobha Karandlaje. The second phase will begin on April 13 and cover Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada districts. A padayatra will be held in each district centre for two to three kilometres followed by a public rally which will be attended by the elected representatives and party leaders," informed Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra.

As a precursor to the yatra, an overnight protest will be staged on April 2, at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, to protest against the price rise and "minority appeasement" politics of the Siddaramaiah government. The protest will be carried out by BJP legislators, who will also stage a protest against the suspension of BJP MLAs, in front of the Kengal Hanumanthaiah statue in Vidhana Soudha. As a follow-up to the protest, on April 5, the BJP workers will take to the streets at the district, taluk and mandal levels.

Speaking at the press meet held at BJP headquarters in Bengaluru on Sunday, Vijayendra alleged the state budget favoured only the minorities, particularly the Muslims. "The Congress government has reserved 4 per cent of all government civil contracts, enhanced the financial assistance for Muslim students studying abroad from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh and increased the salary of imams. After the 'Shaadi Bhagya' incentive to Muslim women, the Siddaramaiah government is now spending on self-defence training for Muslim girls. Why is the government being selective in its schemes? Religion-based reservations and benefits are against the Constitution. This is not just appeasement politics but also an insult to the Hindu community," said Vijayendra, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s schemes, including Jan Dhan Yojana, benefitted everyone regardless of religion and the 'Bhagyalakshmi' scheme started by B.S. Yediyurappa government in the state was meant for all communities, not just Hindus.
