Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Nagpur on March 30, the day of Gudhi Padwa, the first day of the new year according to the Hindu Calendar.
During his Nagpur visit, PM Modi will drop by the RSS headquarters for the first time since he became the prime minister. He will also pay his respects at Deekshabhoomi where Dr B.R. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism along with thousands of Dalits in 1956.
Modi’s visit to RSS headquarters and Deeksha Bhoomi assumes significance as he has his roots in the RSS. He was RSS Pracharak before entering politics.

Meanwhile, the visit to Deekshabhoomi comes even as the BJP government at the Centre and in states are taking steps to woo Dalits in a big way.
Modi is likely to participate in Gudhi Padwa celebrations at Reshim Baag, the RSS headquarters. RSS celebrates Gudhi Padwa in a big way by taking out Sanchalan, the route march by its swayam sevaks.
This is the first time that a sitting prime minister is visiting RSS headquarters. Modi will meet RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and then pay his tribute to RSS founder Dr Keshav Hedgewar at the Smruti mandir complex.
Interestingly, Modi's visit to the RSS head quarters comes at a time when the organisation is celebrating its centenary year.
RSS was founded in 1925 on the day of Dussehra or Vijaya Dashmi as RSS likes to call it.
Nagpur divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidri held an important meeting on Friday to take stock of the preparations and security arrangements for the upcoming visit of the prime minister.
