The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 12 locations in Jammu on Wednesday as part of an ongoing probe into terrorist infiltration from across the border.

The raids targeted individuals suspected of aiding militant groups, including overground workers (OGWs) linked to offshoots of banned outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

According to the NIA, the case involves a broader conspiracy by these groups to attack security forces and civilians. The agency has seized incriminating materials that could help expose the network’s operations.

The operation was based on intelligence suggesting that LeT and JeM militants had entered India via the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC). Reports indicate that local OGWs assisted them by providing shelter, money, food, and logistical support. They are also believed to have guided the infiltrators through difficult terrain in Jammu province.

After crossing into the region, the militants are suspected to have moved towards districts such as Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch, before advancing further into Kashmir. The NIA continues to investigate the scale of its operations and possible connections with other elements.

Since the abrogation of Article 370, the NIA has intensified its operations in Jammu and Kashmir, playing a key role in uncovering separatist plots and targeting terror funding networks. The agency has also acted against individuals involved in narco-terrorism and works closely with the J&K Police and its investigative arm, the State Investigation Agency (SIA).

The NIA has taken strict action against those involved in terror financing and activities threatening national security. Among its high-profile arrests is Awami Itehad Party leader and Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, who was arrested in 2019 and has remained in Tihar Jail since.

The agency continues to conduct operations in Jammu and Kashmir and has also targeted individuals based outside India, seizing properties linked to them.
