Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday claimed around a thousand devotees who had gone to the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj were missing.
Yadav said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had made a statement in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday about the grand event, should also have talked about these missing people.
"Even now, 1000 Hindus are missing from the Kumbh whose whereabouts are not known. The BJP should provide information on the 1000 people who are missing," said the former chief minister.
"The government should find the Hindu brethren who are missing and unite them with their families. People put up posters of missing people and the government is even getting those removed," he alleged.

In the lower house on Tuesday, Modi said the Mahakumbh strengthened the spirit of unity in the country and gave a befitting response to those who questioned India's capability to organise such a large congregation.
Yadav, however, countered the prime minister's claim and said several devotees had faced hardships during the event.
"People were being stopped at the borders. The Centre would have given a budget for the Mahakumbh to the state government—that should be mentioned. At a time when pages of history are being turned, the biggest loss of lives has been of Hindu devotees," he said.
PM Modi should have talked about finding those missing people, he said.
Yesterday, soon after Modi made the statements on Kumbh, opposition members staged protests in the house, seeking to ask questions on the prime minister's remarks.
They also demanded the inclusion of stampede deaths in Modi's statement.
