A 22-year-old woman was gang-raped by a group of men who held her brother hostage on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, Maharashtra Police said. After snatching the mobile phone from the youth, the accused called the woman several times at night and convinced her to come to their location. She was sexually assaulted by four men while two others thrashed her brother and the driver of the autorickshaw she had hired, reports said.
The shocking case was reported in Bhiwandi of Maharashtra. The survivor had broken up with one of the accused a few months back, the police said. While the youth, who hailed from the same village as the survivor, was finding it hard to move on, the girl started seeing another man. This angered the accused who decided to "teach her a lesson."
According to news reports, in the company of five of his friends, the accused visited the girl's brother on Thursday night and held him hostage. They took the boy's phone and kept calling his sister until she picked up. The girl was horrified to see around 15 missed calls from her brother at 1:15 am. When she called back, the accused told her that her brother was having high fever and she needed to come.
The woman hired an autorickshaw and went to the destination she was summoned to, Times Of India (TOI) said in a report. The six youths, all aged between 20 and 25, first assaulted the auto driver and the survivor's sibling before taking her to a secluded place in the same vehicle she arrived in. The daily said that they raped her behind some bushes before taking her to a pick-up van where they took turns to sexually assault her again.
Only one of the six accused has been arrested so far as the rest are on the run, police were quoted as saying.
