Mayawati has hit back at the Congress, after Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that if the Bahujan Samaj Party had joined forces with it, the Bharatiya Janata Party could have been defeated.
On Friday morning, Mayawati took to X to accuse the Congress of fighting the recent Delhi Assembly election as the B team of the BJP. She wrote that this was a matter of common discussion. If the Congress had not fought as the B team, then it would not have been so badly beaten that most of its candidates lost their deposits.

Before Gandhi pointed fingers at others, especially at her, “he should look at his own conduct”, Mayawati wrote in a series of posts.
Gandhi, who is on a visit to his constituency Rae Bareli, said on Thursday that he was saddened by the fact that Mayawati had not joined the opposition alliance to fight the Lok Sabha election. He had also said that the results would have been very different had the entire opposition come together on the same platform. In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party had led the alliance with the Congress. The latter had contested 17 seats and won six of these.

Mayawati’s post was also aimed at the BJP. She wrote that this victory was a chance for the party to fulfil its development promises made to the people, else the party would suffer the same fate as that of the Congress.
On Thursday too, Mayawati had taken on the Congress, accusing it of adopting a casteist approach towards the BSP in those states where it was in power. Yet despite this, the Congress was making misleading statements about allying with the BSP in a state like Uttar Pradesh where it was weak. Yet, she continued, where the BSP had fought with casteist parties like the Congress, the party’s vote had transferred to its allies but a reverse transfer had not taken place. Thus, the BSP always had to face losses in such cases.
Gandhi had raised the issue of the BSP not supporting the opposition when a Dalit youth had spoken about the steps taken by BSP founder Kanshiram and Mayawati for the benefit of the castes. He had asked that if that was so in the past, why did the BSP not come together with the opposition to fight the BJP.
