The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to rule Delhi after a gap of 27 years as the saffron party leads in 48 of the 70 assembly segments as of 12.30 pm. This is in line with the predictions by most of the exit polls, which projected that the BJP will have an easy victory, bagging 35 to 50 seats.
Trends showed that AAP was leading in 22 seats and Congress is expected to draw a blank, as of 12.30 pm. The majority mark in Delhi assembly is 36.
Chanakya Stragies predicted that BJP will lead in 39 to 44 seats while AAP was touted to win 25 to 28 constituencies. All exit polls pegged Congress to 0-3 seats. Peoples Pulse forecast a landslide victory for BJP with 51 to 60 seats against 10 to 19 for AAP. People's Insight gave 40 to 44 seats to BJP and 25 to 29 to AAP. Matrize predicted a tight race with BJP at 35 to 40 and AAP at 32 to 37.
The only pollster who projected a thumping victory for AAP was WeePreside at 46 to 52 seats against 18 to 23 for BJP.
Delhi assembly elections 2020
The AAP won 62 seats in 2020, restricting BJP to eight. The exit polls reflected the ground reality with the poll of polls giving an average of 54 to AAP and 15 to BJP.
All pollsters said that AAP would win the elections. The most accurate poll was by India Today-Axis My India, which predicted 59 to 68 seats for AAP and 2 to 11 for BJP. ABP News-CVoter forecast 49 to 63 seats for AAP and 5 to 19 for BJP.
Delhi assembly elections 2015
In the 2015 assembly elections, AAP won 67 seats and BJP just three. The exit polls were correct in forecasting AAP's victory but they failed to predict the exact number of seats.
None of the polls predicted that AAP would cross the 60 mark. Axis My India predicted 53 seats for AAP, the highest by any pollster, and 17 for BJP. Both Axis My India and Today's Chanakya were correct in predicting zero seats for the Congress.
Delhi assembly elections 2013
The BJP won 32 seats in 2013 while AAP, which was a fresh entrant, bagged 28 constituencies, restricting the ruling Congress to a mere eight.
The poll of exit polls gave BJP 35 seats against 17 each for the Congress and the AAP. The most accurate among polls was Today's Chanakya which forecast 31 seats for the AAP, 29 for the BJP and 10 for the Congress. CVoter also predicted 31 seats for BJP but it gave 20 seats to Congress and 15 to AAP.
