Mayawati took to X to post New Year wishes which she hoped would not just be a formality but that the government through its policies, intent and good governance would bring in the promised ‘achche din’.

She called upon the government and the opposition to give up the ‘politics of selfishness’ and to ensure that those who really deserved the benefits of reservation did get it.

The Bahujan Samaj Party president also pointed out that the government of the most populous state in the country (Uttar Pradesh) also had the greatest responsibility to ensure public welfare.

She cautioned that people did not want new year wishes were just to remain dry formalities but that their hard work be properly rewarded. She also drew attention to the high inflation which coupled with poverty and unemployment had made life difficult. This should be a matter of ‘deep concern’ she wrote.

Her post also targeted the Congress which she said was trying to project itself as a saviour of the Constitution, but that this should reflect in its work as well. The party she said would erase the difference between what it said and what it did.

She asked governments not to indulge in digging and displacing people but instead focus on erasing all differences in society.

Life had been made stressful because of poverty, unemployment, lack of education, and the desperation to migrate; wrote the former chief minister, and said that these could not be tackled only by measuring wins and losses in elections.

In the last paragraph of her two-page statement, she wrote that she hoped that 2025 would not be a year of deceit and false promises. It should be a year in which people live without fear. Towards that end, governments would have to work with strength and energy, she posted.
