Parents of the trainee doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital moved the Calcutta High Court against the CBI probe in the case. The parents’ move comes after key accused in the case were granted bail owing to the central agency’s delay in filing a charge-sheet in the case.
The victim’s parents sought directions for a fresh probe in the case expressing a lack of confidence in the ongoing probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Hearing the plea, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh asked their lawyer to add the CBI, which is probing the case, as a party in the petition and mention the matter again before the court on Monday.
The Postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found dead in the seminar hall of the institution on August 9. Kolkata police arrested Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer in connection with the alleged rape and murder of the doctor.

The Sealdah court on December 13 granted bail to Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and Abhijit Mondal, Tala police station's officer-in-charge as the central agency failed to file charge-sheet in the case within the stipulated time.
According to authorities, Ghosh is accused of tampering with evidence in the case, while the police officer is accused of delaying the filing of an FIR after the body was found. The central agency has filed charge-sheet against prime accused Sanjay Roy and he is facing trial. According to CBI, Roy allegedly committed the crime when the victim had gone to sleep in the hospital's seminar room during a break.
The Supreme Court has taken suo motu case on the matter and ordered the formation of a National Task Force to formulate an action plan for the safety of health care professionals at hospitals. The panel recently submitted its report to the apex court and made suggestions regarding security measures at hospitals.
