The Sambhal district administration has heightened security in the Shahi Jama Masjid area and has issued orders to prohibit entry of outsiders till December 10. The district administration’s orders come amidst the Samajwadi Party delegation’s move to visit the families of those affected by the violence.

"No outsider, any social organisation or any public representative can enter into the borders of the district without seeking the permission of the competent authority till December 10," Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya said in a statement, PTI reported.

A 15-member delegation of the Samajwadi Party, led by Uttar Pradesh Opposition leader Mata Prasad Pandey, is set to visit Sambhal today. Pandey said he was asked by the district magistrate and home secretary not to visit the place citing security reasons. Pandey told reporters, "The DM Sambhal had also called me up telling me that the ban on entry of outsiders has been extended till December 10. So I will now visit the party office and discuss the issue before deciding on our next action.”

The opposition leader charged the Uttar Pradesh government is trying to stop the opposition’s delegation to hide its mistakes. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav slammed the state government’s move and said the entire district administration in Sambhal must be suspended for their negligence.

The Samajwadi Party delegation had earlier planned to visit Sambhal on November 26, however postponed the trip after the state police chief advised him not to visit then.

Meanwhile, a three-member judicial commission appointed by the governor will visit Sambhal on Saturday for inquiry.

Violence erupted in Sambhal on November 24 after a survey team visited Jama Masjid for a second time to conduct a survey as per a local court’s orders. The petitioner claimed Mughal-era mosque was constructed demolishing a Hindu temple. At least four persons died and over 20 persons including police personnel suffered injuries in the clashes.
