A Delhi court on Friday stayed proceedings against Chief Minister Atishi in a defamation case filed against her by the BJP. The court also stayed the summons issued against her by the magisterial court in connection with the case.
Hearing Atishi’s plea challenging magisterial court’s order, Special Judge Vishal Gogne stayed the proceedings of the lower court until further directions. "It is directed that the proceedings before the trial court shall remain stayed till further orders. List for submissions on December 2, 2024," PTI reported quoting Judge Gogne’s verdict.
A defamation case was registered against the Delhi chief minister on Bharatiya Janata Party leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor's complaint, accusing her of making false accusations against the party.

BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor accused Atishi as well as former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of defaming him through her reported claim that several AAP MLAs were approached by the saffron party with offers of cash to bring down the AAP government, PTI reported.
Hearing Kapoor’s plea, the lower court had summoned Atishi on May 28 in the case. A bail was granted to Delhi CM on July 23. The court however refused to summon Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the case. Atishi claimed that the BJP approached 21 AAP MLAs and offered them money to switch over to the saffron camp. The BJP had dismissed the claims as false and baseless, and challenged the AAP leaders to produce evidence.
