In light of fresh violence rocking Manipur, the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) was reimposed in six police station areas across five districts on Thursday. According to the Union Home Ministry, the Act was reimposed in areas found "disturbed" in the ethnic violence-hit state.

Earlier on October 1, the BJP-led state government had imposed AFSPA in the entire state, barring 19 police station areas including the six that have been named by the MHA today.

The police station areas where AFSPA has been reimposed are Sekmai and Lamsang in Imphal West district, Lamlai in Imphal East district, Jiribam in Jiribam district, Leimakhong in Kangpokpi and Moirang in Bishnupur.
