On the first day as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi focused on the poor and farmers, two groups experiencing distress. If his first signature on a file was to give out instalments of PM Kisan Nidhi to farmers, the first decision of the cabinet was to approve the construction of three crore houses for the urban and rural poor.
The government will provide assistance to construct 3 crore rural and urban houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The PMAY, which has been implemented since 2015-16 provides assistance to eligible rural and urban households for the construction of houses with basic amenities.

In the last 10 years, under PMAY, a total of 4.21 crore houses have been completed for eligible poor families.
All the houses constructed under PMAY are provided with basic facilities including toilets, LPG connection, electricity connection, and functional household tap connection through convergence with other schemes of Central and State governments.
The first cabinet meeting of Modi 3.0 government was held at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg where 30 cabinet ministers attended the meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi.
Interestingly, the meeting took place even as portfolios for the ministers were to be allocated.
The NDA government is expected to implement its 100-day agenda planned by the PM before the polls. Many of the agenda items include saturation of the existing schemes so that 100 per cent coverage is achieved for the flagship programmes.
The agenda will get further fillip as the new ministers take charge of their respective ministries.
