Lok Sabha Polls 2024 Results Live: Tamil Nadu, the citadel of Dravidian politics, remains a tricky maze for BJP to date. Despite the "Modi wave", the NDA has struggled to make sizeable electoral dividents from the southern state. However, under party chief K Annamalai's leadership, the BJP has slowly managed to establish itself as a thrid player in political landscape of Tamil Nadu that has conventionally been a duopoly, orbiting the time-tested DMK-AIADMK rivalry.
THE WEEK LIVE UPDATES | Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 LIVE: Modi or INDIA bloc?
BJP-led NDA's push for "400 baar" depends a lot on its performance in the southern states. The saffron camp, in order to achieve the goal, not just got to sweep Karnataka but also needs to better their tally in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is no easy task as under chief minister MK Stalin's leadership, the DMK and its I.N.D.I.A partner forms a formidable opposition. The Congress is fighting from nine seats along with the neighbouring Puducherry, while the Left parties (CPI, CPM) and VCK are contesting two seats each. MDMK and IUML are also in the fray for I.N.D.I. Alliance while CM Stalin's sister Kanimozhi is seeking a mandate from Thoothukudi once again.

Historically, the BJP has won only one seat from Tamil Nadu in the past two general elections. It was Pon Radhakrishnan who emerged victorious from Kanniyakumari in 2014.
In the 2019 general elections, the BJP managed to form an alliance with the mighty AIADMK. However, Stalin's wagon thumped the NDA to bag 38 of the state's 39 seats. P Ravindhranath, son of former TN chief minister O Panneerselvam, was the only AIADMK candidate to reach Parliament from the state following his victory from Theni constituency. The BJP, which was allotted five seats by the Dravidian major, failed to open its account.
