New Navy chief Dinesh Tripathi assumes charge: ‘Focus on deterring potential adversaries at sea’

Tripathi says the Indian Navy is combat-ready and future-proof force

The Indian Navy’s new Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi assumed charge on Tuesday. Tripathi said deterring potential adversaries at sea will be his singular focus.

Addressing presspersons, the new Chief Admiral said, “Over the years, our Navy has evolved into a combat-ready, cohesive, credible and future-proof force. The existing and emerging challenges in the maritime domain mandate that the Indian Navy should remain operationally ready at all times to deter potential adversaries at sea in peace and to win the war at and from the sea when asked to do so. This will remain my singular focus and endeavour.” 

Tripathi added he would strengthen 'Aatamnirbharta' initiatives for a ‘Viksit Bharat’. “I will strengthen the ongoing efforts of the Indian Navy towards 'Aatamnirbharta', towards introducing new technologies and becoming an important pillar of national development towards our collective quest for Viksit Bharat.”

Tripathi is succeeding Admiral R. Hari Kumar and he has previously served as the Commanding Flag Officer of the Western Naval Command and the Director General of Naval Operations. He has also served as the Chief of Personnel. An expert in Communications and Electronic Warfare, he has been in the service for almost 40 years with a remarkable service record.  

Bom on May 15, 1964, he studied at Sainik School, Rewa and graduated from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune. He completed an advanced course at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, and the Naval Higher Command Course at Karanja. He was also an alumnus of the Naval Command College in the USA. 

Being a part of the Indian Navy since July 1, 1985, Admiral Tripathi held command over the Indian Naval ships Trishul, Vinash and Kirch, demonstrating his leadership and expertise in naval operations.
