Unfazed by the backlash, Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeated his “Congress eyeing the public’s wealth” charge in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh on Monday. Modi termed Congress’s poll promise of redistributing wealth as “Maovadi (Maoist) thinking”.

Addressing a poll rally in Aligarh, Modi charged the Congress and members of the INDIA bloc are eyeing gold, mangalsutra of women. “I want to warn the countrymen. Congress and the INDI alliance have their eyes on your earnings and your property,” Modi charged.

“The 'Shehzada' of Congress says that if their government comes to power, they will investigate who earns how much, who has how many properties. Our mothers and sisters have gold. It is 'stree dhan', it is considered sacred, and the law also protects it. Now these people's eyes are on the 'Mangalsutra' of women. Their intention is to steal the gold of mothers and sisters,” the prime minister said.

He added, “If you have an old ancestor's home in your village and you also purchased a small flat in your city for the future of your children, then they will take away one of the two. This is Maovadi (Maoist) thinking; this is the thinking of communists. By doing this they have already ruined many countries. Now Congress and INDIA want to implement the same policy in India."

Referring to a speech made by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2006, Modi on Sunday alleged Congress wants to redistribute wealth to “those who have more children, to infiltrators”. “They have said that the gold that our sisters have and other properties will be distributed equally. Is that acceptable to you? Does the government have a right to snatch your property? Does the government have the right to take the wealth built by you with your hard work?" PM Modi asked on Sunday.

Modi accused the Congress manifesto said they would calculate the gold and then redistribute the wealth. “They will not allow even your Mangalsutra to remain in your possession, they will go to this extent," PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister took a further dig at the Congress, stating that Manmohan Singh's government had said Muslims have the first right to the country's assets. "When they were ruling, the party said that Muslims have the first right over the country's wealth. Who will you distribute it to? To those who have more children? Or infiltrators? Is this acceptable?" asked Modi.
