In the wake of disruptions during voting, the State Election Commission on Saturday ordered repolling in 11 booths of the Inner Manipur seat. Sporadic violence, threats and intimidation marred the phase 1 Lok Sabha polls in the conflict-hit state.

Fresh voting will take place on Monday at 11 booths from 7 am to 5 pm, an order issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said. The repolling will take place in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency.

According to the officials, the affected polling stations are Moirangkampu Sajeb and Thongam Leikai in Khurai constituency, four in Kshetrigao and one in Thongju in Imphal East district and three in Uripok and one in Konthoujam in Imphal West district, the official said.

However, the state recorded over 70 per cent voter turnout during the phase 1 Lok Sabha polls on Friday. Incidents of gunfire were also reported in polling stations in Manipur Valley. A bullet injury was reported after an armed person opened fire at a polling station in Khurai in Imphal East at noon.

The Congress demanded repoll in 47 polling stations alleging that booths were captured and elections were rigged. Manipur Congress president K. Meghachandra said the party had lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer demanding repoll in 36 polling stations in Inner Manipur constituency and 11 in Outer Manipur constituency.

During phase 1, voting was held for two constituencies—Inner and Outer Manipur. Polling is scheduled in some areas of the Outer Manipur constituency in phase 2 on April 26.
