J&K cop injured after shootout with gangsters in Kathua dies

A police officer died a day after he was shot in the head during a shootout with gangsters in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Deepka Sharma, a probationary sub-inspector. He was undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College in Kathua and later shifted to Amandeep Hospital in Pathankot. Another office, Anil Kumar, was also injured in the firing.

The shootout occured on Tuesday night when police were chasing a gangster, identified as Vasudev, who was a main accused in a murder case registered at Ramgarh police station. He is a member of a gang known as Shunoo Group.

After being cornered by police on the medical college premises in Kathua, the gangsters fired at them. The police retailiated and killed Vasudev and one of his associates around 10.30 am on Tuesday.
