In a major breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency has arrested a key conspirator in Bengaluru’s Rameshwaram Cafe blast case.

The central agency picked up Muzammil Shareef on Wednesday after it carried out massive raids at 18 locations—12 in Karnataka, five in Tamil Nadu and one in Uttar Pradesh.

At least 10 people, including customers and staff, were injured after a low-intensity blast occurred at the Brookfield outlet of the eatery on March 1.

The NIA, which took over the probe on March 3, had earlier identified the main accused Muzammil Shareef, who had allegedly carried out the blast. The agency had also identified another conspirator, Abdul Matheen Taha, who is also wanted by it in sevaral other cases.

Both men are on the run.

The NIA on Thursday conducted raids at the houses and residential premises of all the three accused and seized various digital devices along with cash.

The agency claimed its investigations have revealed that Muzammil Shareef had extended logistic support to the other two identified accused in the case.

Efforts are on to nab the absconding accused and unearth the larger conspiracy behind the attack, it said.
