BJP has fielded a woman for the first time in Goa ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Pallavi Dempo, an entrepreneur and educationist, will contest from South Goa in the polls.

Dempo's name appeared in BJP's fifth list of candidates for the Parliament elections released on Sunday. This is her first election as she enters Goan politics. 

“I am deeply grateful to the BJP for this nomination and accept it in all humility. We will try our level best to win this seat. I have always believed in (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi's vision of leadership, a vision that according to me, empowers everybody irrespective of caste creed or religion and equal opportunities to every section of society,” Dempo said after she was nominated.

Congress lawmaker Francisco Sardinha is the sitting MP in South Goa constituency.

Who is Pallavi Dempo?

Pallavi Dempo, 49, is the executive director of Dempo Industries and a trustee at Dempo Charities Trust. Her husband, Shrinivas Dempo, is an industrialist and chairman of Goa-based Dempo Group of Companies.

She completed her graduation in chemistry from Parvatibai Chowgule College, Goa, and did her MBA from MIT, Pune.
