With Bengaluru residents grappling with severe water crisis, the city's water authority has banned rain dances and pool parties on March 25 for Holi celebrations in the Karnataka capital.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), a governmental agency responsible for water supply and sewage disposal in the tech hub, has issued an order restricting the use of water by commercial establishments for Holi celebrations.

The city residents have been queuing up for drinking water amid depleted groundwater levels and dried up borewells in wakes of scorching summer and lack of rainfall.

However, the authorities have clarified that the restrictions don't affect the traditional Holi celebrations are allowed at home. The order comes amid advertisements by hotels and resorts that announced pool parties and rain dance.

Bengaluru Lulu Mall has announced on BookMyShow that the establishment will celebrate a "dry Holi" this year.

On March 21, the BWSSB has also made it mandatory to install aerators in taps to prevent water wastage besides prohibiting usage of drinking water for car washing, gardening and construction purposes.
