Mamata Banerjee sustains 'major injuries', admitted to hospital

She underwent a few stitches and medical tests, got discharged later

Trinamool Congress chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained 'major injuries' on Thursday. She underwent a few stitches and medical tests in a government-run hospital in Kolkata before doctors found her stable to be discharged.

The X handle of All India Trinamool Congress had posted a few pictures of the chief minister which showed her bleeding from the forehead.

According to sources, she was admitted to SSKM hospital in Kolkata. The pictures appeared to be taken from the hospital.

"Our chairperson @MamataOfficial sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers," the post read.

TMC national general secretary and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee got her admitted to the hospital, party sources revealed.

"She fell somewhere inside the home and was immediately shifted to the hospital. She was bleeding from the forehead and stitches were required," her brother Kartik Banerjee told a Bengali news channel, reported PTI.

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar wished her speedy recovery. "Our prayers are with her for a quick return to good health," he tweeted.
