Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said a serious investigation is underway in the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case. The chief minister added he will be visiting the explosion site and injured persons in hospital on Saturday.

Talking to presspersons, Siddaramaiah said, “A person wearing a mask and cap came in a bus, fixed the timer and exploded it. The deputy CM and Home Minister visited the spot on Friday. I will also go to the hospital and the spot today. I don't know if this is the work of an organisation or not. A serious investigation is underway. BJP should not play politics in this matter. Mangalore blast and Bengaluru explosion are not related,” ANI reported.

The chief minister added that the blast is still under investigation and appropriate action will be taken once he receives the report. A meeting of senior Home Department officials has been convened today in the wake of the blast.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner said the investigation is progressing at a fast pace in the case. “The police investigation in connection with the Rameswaram cafe incident is going on at a fast pace. Based on the clues found at the scene, many police teams are investigating from different angles. As this is a sensitive case related to security issues, the cooperation of the media is requested,” he tweeted. Teams of NSG, NIA, Bomb Disposal Squad and Bengaluru police are at the blast site and conducting investigations.

The blast was initially assumed to be caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder at the restaurant. However, according to CCTV footage, the suspect was seen carrying a bag, was wearing goggles, and a cap and mask to hide his identity. The police said the blast was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) fitted with a timer in a bag left near the handwash area of the restaurant by a "customer". It exploded between 12:50pm and 1pm.
